IDDRI: An agro-ecological Europe in 2050 – multifunctional agriculture for healthy eating
This big piece of work by French think-tank, Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales (IDDRI), sets out how transitioning European farming to agro-ecology over 10 years could ensure sustainable food for Europeans, protect biodiversity and natural resources, and mitigate climate change. Despite a decline in production of 35% compared to 2010 (in Kcal), the report sets out how this scenario would also result in;
– Feeding Europeans healthily while maintaining export capacity
– Reducing Europe’s global food footprint
– A 40% reduction in agricultural GHG emissions
– Helping to restore biodiversity and to protect natural resources.
