Priorities for Research and Policy report
The Net Zero and the UK Agri-Food System: Priorities for Research and Policy report was produced following the Network’s first 18 months of activities. It sets out the suggested priorities for research and policy that have emerged from our work under six themes, plus a seventh theme which considers system-wide and cross-cutting issues.
- Healthy and Sustainable Diets
- Land Productivity
- Food Security and Trade
- Land Use Change and Land Management
- Circular Food Systems
- Behaviour Change
- System-wide and Cross-Cutting Issues
The focus is on emissions from the UK agri-food system, and not the global environmental footprint of UK-based food consumers. The themes are not easily separable and the proposals often straddle them.
The report arose from discussions at the AFN Network+ Big Tent 2023, a workshop in London in November 2023 and a consultation of the AFN Network+ membership in early 2024.
In 2024 the Network has committed to funding at least 14 projects which support our mission of getting the agri-food sector to net zero. Along with discussions at the Big Tent 2024, this report helped to identify the 14 specific topics which successful scoping study applicants must address.
