About me

I am a PDRA working on FoodSEqual/ FoodSEqual- Health project, where are are looking into the diets of disadvantaged communities. I am working on the biomarker side of the project where I analyse the urine (sugars, salt, hippuric acid, Vit C, etc) and hair (source of carbon, protein and sulphur) samples using various cutting-edge technologies such LC-MS, ICP-MS, IR-MS, HPLC etc., to see what is in their diets.

About me

Andrew is a Professor of Rural Resource Economics and Head of the Department for Rural Economy, Environment and Society. He has a variety of interests focused around the socio-economics of agricultural production. This covers high and low income country contexts, working recently in both Colombia and East Africa to understand uptake of sustainable practices. These include investigations into uptake of precision farming techniques, ecological practice adoption as well as measuring the impact of these practices on wider social goals, such as greenhouse gas emissions and animal welfare. He has established a team of interdisciplinary scientists working on farmer behaviours and innovation, as well on the economics of farm production. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an executive member of the UK Agricultural Economics Society, and recently served on a working party for the Scottish Science Advisory Council around food access. He also leads economic input into the Scottish Animal Health Consortium (EPIC) and is member of the science directorate for Climate Exchange (CxC). He has an interest in data management and analysis and is an ONS Accredited Researcher. He has contributed to a number of debates of policy significance, most recently with the Royal Society on their 2050 Climate Challenge and for Defra in development of standards for their Environmental Land Management system.

Agricultural land has many uses and some biomass crops like miscanthus grow very well on marginal land, not viable for food crops. I can provide projections on biomass crops, yield and belowground biomass, energy, soil carbon and carbon flux which feed into life cycle analysis. This is more robust if a partner has field data for verification. The team I am part of is also looking to expand our crop range to other industrial crops. I am looking to develop a project proposal with partner(s).

About me

I have ticked all geographic areas because I build models and run projections for the whole UK and globally, although I am physically based in Aberdeen. I have years of experience in modelling agriculture and soil-plant-air interactions, and work in a small team developing biomass crop and soil carbon models.

Beans, peas and other pulses. The role of the food retail sector in food systems transformation. Healthy and sustainable diets.

About me

My PhD research at the Centre for Food Policy brings together my multidisciplinary experience in sustainability and nutrition, focusing on food system transformation for better environmental and health outcomes. My research focuses on improving food systems outcomes through the increased production and consumption of beans, peas and pulses in the UK, with a focus on the role of the retail sector. I am a Chartered Environmentalist with twenty years’ professional experience in sustainability management and consulting across the public, private and voluntary sectors. In recognition that food can play a pivotal role in promoting both personal and planetary health, I retrained in nutrition through the Royal Society of Public Health, and studied Postgraduate Clinical Nutrition prior to starting my PhD.

About me

I lead on Metrics for FixOurFood, a project which aims to transform the Yorkshire food system to one that is regenerative. We are developing an interactive tool, which measures the impact of different interventions on the food system, which will help policymakers make effective decisions around food system transformation. My recent research focuses on thinking about how to feed the UK amid catastrophic food system disruption, and the resilience of the UK food system. I’m the founder of Take a Bite Out of Climate Change, a public engagement project, which brings together leading scientists from around the UK, to develop educational resources focused on the link between food and climate change.

CTRF invests in discovery research which uses the power of biology and biotechnology to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and oceans. There's plenty of overlap with the AFN Network+, and I am always happy to discuss our work with anyone, or be guided to new areas of research. Particularly interested in views on the development of a biotechnology/GHG removals research ecosystem.

About me

Currently managing CTRF's research programme, including working with current grantholders and developing new initiatives for future research calls. Previously worked at BBSRC, including as portfolio manager for the soils and agrisystems disciplines.
