We are creating an on-farm classroom called The Countryside Kitchen Classroom to offer field to fork education to a variety of age ranges / groups including school children, voluntary groups and corporate businesses. We will open in Summer 2025 and offer bespoke opportunities to hold workshops and training on farm.

About me

Most of my career has been involved with the dairy industry. I Worked in research for ADAS then was Technical Director at Kingshay. I specialise in building tools for data analytics for the dairy industry. My main program is Tracker a milk prediction and monitoring program that analyses the whole herd and the individuals within it. I have significant experience with data analysis and write my own computer code (maybe a bit of help from AI :) )

I am a farming advisor and developing policy leader, dedicated to promoting agroecology and building sustainable livestock systems. Having bounced from veterinary to agribusiness and tripped over genetics along the way, I’ve happily landed in the livestock sustainability sector as Co-Founder at training non-profit Farm Steps CIC and Livestock Policy Advisor to DEFRA. I'm also studying towards a PhD at IBERS Aberystwyth as part of Project Rhizoe; researching carbon and nitrogen dynamics and soil microbiome function in grassland systems.

I lead the Scottish Farm Business Survey team in Scotland and also lead on internal Knowledge development work for SRUC's SAC Consulting in five thematic areas, Carbon, Biodiversity, Business Management and productivity in Arable and Livestock farming. SAC is part of the commercial arm of SRUC, now a university. We produce economic and farm level Nitrogen and GHGs datasets that we deliver to Scottish Government upon which they base their policy decision making.

I am part of a small certified organic agroforestry social enterprise where we grow plant materials, process onsite and sell online (mostly). We also run a funded farm network/cluster focussing on improved habitat for pollinators, farmer well being and people who are vulnerable (disability, refugees, low income). I am a plant biologist and environmental anthropologist.
