Organic farming of food supporting increasing biodiversity carbon sequestration and the reduction of fossil fuel usage amongst other areas to support net zero goals.

About me

I went back to family farm 11 years ago after re training in herbal medicine and practicing for a few years as well as working in my husbands music education business. My parents farm became organic in 2000 and was an organic dairy with 100 cows. It now has a small suckler beef herd, easy care sheep and grows wheat and oats all of which I manage. My husband and I have also purchased a neighbouring small farm (60 acres) that is grazed by my parents’ finishing cattle. I’m interested in nutrition and increasing biodiversity through growing wildflower meadow, herbs and ancient grains.

Collaborative EU and UKRI projects. I currently hold, as coordinator, an EU Staff Exchange project around localised food supply transparency and will submit AHRC responsive mode application in March in a similar vane.

About me

Dr Jeff Bray is a Consumer Behaviour researcher, thought leader and educator focused on the societal challenges of sustainable consumption both from an environmental perspective and a personal (health) perspective. He leads Bournemouth Universities Consumer Insights Research Theme. Jeff’s intellectual contribution is interdisciplinary and focuses on applications of consumer theory to a variety of contexts. Recent funded research and publications have examined consumer decision making with respect to food choice, and the health and sustainability impact that might be achieved through influencing these choices. This work has been funded by EU project FoodSMART (grant 643999) and British Council project Veg+ (grant 332207684). In 2022 Jeff won, as coordinator, EU project FoodMAPP (grant 101086115) working with a consortium across Europe developing short food supply chain solutions. Outside of the university he is active in promoting our societies young people. He serves as Governor of two large local schools. He is keen to supervise Doctoral students in the areas Consumer Behaviour, Food Choice and Ethical Consumption.

Interactions between livestock health, productivity and sustainability Innovation in animal health including digital tech and artificial intelligence

About me

I began my career as a farm vet in UK and then specialised in veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine here and overseas. Through this experience, I became an active proponent for One Health, including research concerned with zoonotic diseases and on surveillance systems, in the Animal & Plant Health Agency. I was fortunate to be a founding academic in the University of Surrey's School of Veterinary Medicine and I am privileged to have been appointed as Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology. My interests in Surrey expanded into innovation in animal health as a co-founder of the veterinary Health Innovation Engine (vHive) in partnership with Zoetis, which had a particular focus on the use of Big Data, digital innovation and the application of Artificial Intelligence to gain new insights develop solutions to benefit animals, their owners and wider society. I continue to provide expertise as a consultant in animal health and innovation through my company, Mujika Ltd.
